J D McDougall Ltd is a well-established family run company in the commercial/industrial Textiles sector, producing flame retardant textiles and manufactured curtains and drapery to the Theatre, TV and Film Industry for over 100 years.
We are looking for a Warehouse Operative to join our small team in Stratford, East London, who has an easy commuting journey.
The ideal candidate will have previous warehousing experience, good communication skills to work efficiently within a team and be reliable and committed to showing up on time and ready to work. The starting salary is £26,500pa to £27,000 (dependent on experience) and the hours are 40 hours per week, 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday
Forklift experience/licence preferred. Applicants with previous forklift experience (licence renewal can be arranged) are ideal.
The minimum requirement for this role is that you hold a current full driving licence and are willing to undertake forklift training/certification as required.
This is a permanent full time , workshop-based role. We have free onsite parking, bicycle racks and we are a short walk from Maryland Station (Elizabeth Line)
Key Duties (but not exclusively)
- Receiving & Unloading Goods: Unloading delivery trucks, inspecting shipments for damage or discrepancies, and accurately booking in stock using the computerised warehouse system
- Stocking & Organisation: Storing goods tidily in appropriate racking and logically in accordance with the warehouse locating system. All goods must be accurately identified and labelled by product code and batch references.
- Inventory Control: Maintaining accurate, real time inventory records and carry out stock checks as and when required.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operating machinery such as forklift trucks (subject to qualification), pallet stackers and inspection machinery.
- Order Picking / Packing: Identify and select correct stock at the ideal piece lengths against works order tickets. Packing of goods including large heavy bales and rolls of fabric to a high standard and labelling with correct despatch and shipping labels.
- Deal with suppliers, customers and couriers who attend the premises in a polite, professional, courteous manner with regard to deliveries and collections.
- Follow all health and safety regulations and ensure the warehouse and packing area is kept tidy, clean, clear and safe at all times
- Assistance with other general workshop duties to meet business demands, including but not limited to, inspecting cloth, checking and cutting fabric.
This is a hands-on, physically demanding role involving manual handling, lifting, and moving stock throughout the day. Candidates should be comfortable working on their feet for long periods and performing physical tasks safely. Staff welfare is a high priority and breaks are given twice per day in addition to the hour lunch break.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in warehousing operations
- Ability to safely operate machinery such as pallet stackers and inspecting machinery
- Ability to operate forklift equipment safely is desirable (subject to certification)
- Strong physical fitness for heavy lifting and manual handling tasks
- Familiarity with computerised warehouse management systems
- Good organisational skills with attention to detail in stock management, order fulfilment, selecting correct stock for each job and packing to a high standard
- Excellent timekeeping and ability to meet deadlines
- Effective communication skills and ability to work well within a team
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations and procedures
